The North Mississauga Soccer Club is currently accepting applications for the Club’s Head Referee position.

Under the direction of the Club’s President and on behalf of the Board of Directors, the Club Head Referee will be responsible for the management of all matters directly related to referees, including but not restricted to education, development, and organizing referees’ roster.

Position Objective

The Club’s Head Referee plays an integral role in the success of the operations of the North Mississauga Soccer Club (NMSC). Passion for soccer, excellent communicator and giving back to the community are key traits desired in the Head Referee’s position. NMSC requires the Head Referee to establish and maintain a comprehensive training and mentoring program to allow opportunity for our community’s youth to participate in a different aspect of soccer and fulfill the needs of our members on the field of play.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Training of Referees

Provide training and education for existing Club Referees to maintain and build their skill levels. Provide OSA/FIFA training programs for new or upgrading referees.

Scheduler Supervision

Perform and provide the required services needed to ensure proper coverage of referees and lines persons for all NMSC home games in all required leagues including but not limited to House League, Festivals and Tournaments.

Referee Administration

Coordinate and manage all administration aspects of the program including but limited to Referee payment and reporting monthly to the Club Treasurer, ensuring all referees are signed up for payment (direct deposit), invoicing of all referee courses where outside professionals are required, file and transfer all referee documentation (certificates, qualifications etc.) to the Club’s Administrator. Ensure Club referees adhere to the Code of conduct set out by the Club/OSA/FIFA and the OSA's uniform policy.

Referee Mentoring Program

With the guidance of the NMSC Technical Committee and Treasurer, establish a mentorship program so the referees have a source of education and guidance while growing as referees in a healthy and active way.

Communication & Reporting

Monthly reporting to the NMSC Board during off season and weekly informal reporting to the Technical Committee and Treasurer as required during the Summer soccer season. Be a contributor to the Club website and Newsletter when requested. Prepare year in review report for the Club's AGM each September. When requested, attend NMSC Board meeting and or any other Club sponsored event.

Job Responsibilities

  • Promote the common good of soccer and the North Mississauga Soccer Club
  • Open communication with the Board of Directors
  • Positive attitude and strong ability to build professional business relationships
  • Ability to efficiently solve scheduling or other issues that may arise.
  • Develop an annual work plan for referee instruction, development, recruitment and retention
  • Maintain appropriate records including a current list of referees and contact information
  • Ensure referee assignment is done by the referee scheduler for all games directly associated with the Club, ensuring proper coverage for all games, including appropriate age, classification and experience level of referee consistent with the level of the game
  • Ensuring all referee payment paperwork is confirmed and validated for proper compensation and sent to the Treasurer as per set schedule
  • Ensure referees are fully informed of dress code as per the NMSC and OSA guidelines, and proper administration of game sheets
  • Ensure adherence of all referees to OSA policies and procedures, and code of conduct, and any Club policies and procedures
  • Report any referee who fails to attend game appointments, or breaches any of the policies and procedures of the OSA and/or Club to the PHSA whichever is the appropriate process outline in rules and regulations
  • Oversee the acquisition, storage and inventory of uniforms and equipment for new referees
  • Organize an Official pre and post season Club referee meeting
  • Organize education sessions for referees including entry level and mini field clinics on a yearly basis
  • Act as a liaison with OSA/PHSA to remain current on referee matters
  • With the Club, establish a mentor program, and identify and designate potential mentors
  • Act as a liaison with OSA/PHSA, local assignors, district clubs and leagues to determine their referee requirements, and provide opportunities for appropriate referees within the Club
  • Prepare a communication plan to address any clinic information, and/or education sessions, meetings and pertinent information sharing.
  • Attend education sessions to ensure required qualifications remain current.
  • Act as a liaison with the Club administrator on referee matters with parents, coaches, managers as needed During the months of April thru October, submit a monthly status report to the Board of Directors
  • Make recommendations for game fees annually
  • Submit an annual report to the Club Board of Directors.
