The Burlington Sport Alliance has awarded player, Matthew Monteiro, the High School Male Athlete of the Year award.

Matthew is a determined and creative individual who has always been able to balance academics and community involvement successfully.  Over the past four years, Matthew has consistently distinguished himself as an exemplary young man who continuously challenges himself to do bigger and better things. Academically, he has earned an 80% average across his Grade 12 academic courses.

Matthew constantly seeks out opportunities to get involved and make a difference both on and off the field and court. He has been an integral part of his school’s football, basketball, badminton and soccer programs, including captain of the football, basketball, and soccer teams.

Outside the school building he has an impressive resume, starting for North Mississauga’s Semi Pro soccer team, refereeing the local women’s soccer league, a soccer coach mentor for children ages 4 through 12 all the while playing club soccer.

Come the fall, after turning down a handful of NCAA Soccer Scholarships, Matthew will stay close to home and will be one of the first freshmen in 4 years to receive a scholarship to the McMaster Men’s Soccer program; he is bound for a great and bright athletic future.

Congratulations again to this year’s Burlington Sport Alliance High School Male Athlete of the Year, Matthew Monteiro.
