Inclement Weather Policy
Parents may take any reasonable action they deem appropriate for the safety of their child at any time. Please click HERE for extra safety tips provided by both the Canadian Soccer Association and Ontario Soccer (Severe Weather & Heat).
All soccer events will be played, rain or shine. The office will only cancel games ahead of their scheduled start time if the City of Mississauga closes the fields. They will do this by 4:00 pm at the latest. You can call 3-1-1 or directly visit the City’s field closure website HERE. The office will post game cancellations on our NMSC social media accounts and website by 4:30 pm. All coaches in the effected division(s) will be contacted as well.
If there is no thunder/lightning before the beginning of the game; the referee will decide the course of action in consultation with both coaches before it starts. In our divisions without referees (U3-U8), the coaches of both teams have that authorization to suspend play or cancel matches in the event of thunder/lightning.
Once thunder/lightning occurs, the play must be stopped immediately. We will strictly observe the 30/30 rule. If the “flash to bang” is less than 30 seconds, play will be suspended for 30 minutes timed from the last flash or bang observation. If a game is played at least 10 minutes into the 2nd half in our U14-U19 divisions, it will be counted as played and scores will stand. Any U14-U19 game cancelled due to weather will be recorded as a 1-1 tie.
Games are not cancelled due to extreme heat, however, extra water and rest breaks will be implemented by Technical Staff (U3-U7), Coaches (U8), and Referees (U9+). Coaches and Referees should meet prior to the start of the game to ensure all parties have been communicated to on when these will occur.
