The North Mississauga Soccer Club Board of Directors announced Thursday that Onkar Dhillon will lead the League1 Ontario Women’s Program for the 2020 Season.
A former NMSC coach with significant ties to the Mississauga soccer community, Dhillon assumes this position immediately. “Onkar brings a wealth of experience and unique vision for the program. We are looking forward to him leading us in the future.” President, Joe Alves said. “With his current position as an Assistant Coach at the University of Guelph and recently being with the Team Canada (FISU) staff at the World University Games in Italy this summer, we feel he has a unique insight in how to provide the best experience for high-performance players at the senior level”
Seeking a fresh player-centered approach, Dhillon has secured the services of Laura Callender and AC Lang as player-coaches for the 2020 Season. “In AC and Laura our players are going to work with two outstanding female footballers who will help us guide the vision for the program both on and off the field” says Dhillon.
Callender an All Canadian player for Queens University has also represented Canada two times at the FISU World University Games in Taipei (TAI) in 2017 and in Naples (ITL) in 2019. “In Laura, we get an advanced soccer mind who has achieved excellence at every level she has been at, our players will learn from her detailed approach to preparation and will enjoy her incredible playing and coaching disposition”.
Lang was a standout midfielder for the Guelph Gryphons who has won an OUA Championship and has been an OUA All-Star. “AC is one of the brightest young footballing minds I have ever encountered.” said Dhillon “She has an amazing enthusiasm for the game and as a three-time captain of her University team, she embodies all of the qualities needed to be a great leader both on the field and off”
In addition to Calender and Lang, Dhillon has announced that Mitchell Apollon and Don Ferguson will serve the program as Technical Assistants for the 2020 Season. “Mitch and Don are going to bring so much insight and positive energy to the group. They both have demonstrated excellence at the high-performance level and Don will bring us a wealth of knowledge as a former National Team player and his current coaching experience at the Canadian National Para Level.”
“Having these four individuals on board, means that we can adequately address the needs of player development and prepare them for the rigours of League1 and their varsity careers” said Dhillon.
