The North Mississauga women’s Panthers team will be finishing off the year at home against Unionville Millikin F.C. tonight. While this has been a tough, rebuilding year for the Panthers, they hope to go out with a bang and some pride!
The same goal will be in the minds of Unionville, as they are fourth last in the league with only a slim chance of being in contention for making the top eight to get into the playoffs. (They could make it in if they win tonight and DeRo, Woodbridge and Durham all lose their remaining games.)
Some keys to tonight’s game include:
- Unionville has a 3-4-5 record this year, with 14 points (Mississauga has no points in 12 games)
- Tori Evans is the leading goal scorer for Mississauga this year, with two goals, while Shana Flynn is the top goal scorer for Unionville, with four
- Unionville’s defence is to be contended with. Though the team has only scored 14 goals this year, they have only allowed 22, which is one fewer than fourth place
- This will Judy Tjanetis’s last game as head coach of the Panthers League1 Ontario Women’s team
But despite the rough year in the standings, there are a lot of young players on the Mississauga team, some of who are returning next year. The hope is that the Panthers will end the year with something good to lift them through the off season. Go Panthers!
