North Mississauga Soccer Lady Panthers are back in action this Saturday night when they face off against visiting Unionville-Milliken Soccer Club in League1 Ontario play at the Hershey Centre at 7pm.
Last season, the Lady Panthers finished 2nd in the league and with New coach, Eduardo Ramirez, at the helm he is looking forward to instilling his philosophy, “I always want to play soccer simple, having the ball as much as we can, recover it fast when we lose it, so we can start attacking (having fun) again”.
This past week at the 2018 Season Launch Party, Coach Eduardo said he expects the Club’s supporters groups: Red Street Elite and ‘Sauga City Collective, to provide a “12th Man” boost. ”Soccer has always been a big part of my life. I’ve spent 15+ years playing, coaching and managing soccer in Spain, Chile, Argentina, U.S and now Canada. The game has a great way of bringing people together and inspiring them. For me, it’s taught me the importance of hard work, perseverance, endurance, and having fun. Winning is one thing, but playing beautiful soccer is what makes it fun”.
Faltering at the finishing line last season, the Panthers hope that the roster moves this season will solidify the program, “This weekend we have a really talented group of players. They are just starting to get to know each other and our style, but it will be great to see them on the field!”.
Players to watch: Midfielder Carla Portillo, a West Virginia Grad and former Canada U20 National Team player. Goalkeepers, Deanna Persico from McMaster University and rising star Faith Ruetas, a member of the Philippines National Team. Striker & Captain, Zoe Derkach who has grown up within the North Mississauga Soccer and currently plays at Sheridan College. “We’ve also got a lot of young talent from our club that will be showcased this weekend. I think it’s an integral part of any club to help support and develop their youth players, and that is what we are doing at North Mississauga,” said Coach Eduardo.
